Biography

Dr. Abbey is the Bob ’85 and Kelly Jordan ’86 Associate Professor in Business at Mays Business School. He also serves as Department Editor (Sustainability) for the Journal of Operations Management and is an active facultysenator, CTE Teaching Fellow, and member of the CHSD Faculty Senate Legislative Affairs Committee. With nearly a decade of experience in remanufacturing and closed-loop supply chains, Dr. Abbey's research explores consumer perceptions of lifecycle products, product design for multiple lifecycles, and remanufacturing processes. He also investigates health care supply chains, focusing on reimbursement systems and the Recovery Audit Contractor system’s operational challenges. He contributes to the Remanufacturing Industry Council's ANSI standard efforts and reviews for leading journals in the field. He has co-chaired and organized international conferences on Closed-Loop Supply Chains and Sustainable Operations, engaging academics and industry experts to address issues in recycling and circular economies. His Mays Grand Challenge: Healthcare discussion highlighted major challenges in the U.S. health care system.
