Panganamala Kumar

Panganamala Kumar conducts research in the areas of cybersecurity (with a focus on autonomous vehicles) and secure wireless networking. He is a University Distinguished Professor, Regents Professor, and holds the College of Engineering Chair in Computer Engineering. He also is co-director of the Research Institute for Foundations of Interdisciplinary Data Science at Texas A&M, which brings together researchers from six disciplinary areas, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering and information and Operation Management to conduct research on the foundations of data science motivated by problems arising in bioinformatics, the energy arena, power systems, and transportation systems. The institute is well positioned to develop rigorous theories, novel methodologies, and efficient computational techniques to solve data challenges in many other application domains. Kumar is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of the USA, the World Academy of Sciences, and the Indian National Academy of Engineering. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule) in Zurich. He received the IEEE Field Award for Control Systems, the Donald Eckman Award of American Automatic Control Council, the Fred Ellersick Prize of IEEE Communications Society, the Outstanding Contribution Award of ACM SIGMOBILE, the Infocom Achievement Award, and a SIGMOBILE Test-of-Time Paper Award. He is an ACM Fellow and a Fellow of IEEE. He is the co-author of six books, most recently Architecture and Economics for Grid Operations 3.9 (2018) and Stochastic Systems: Estimation, Identification and Adaptive Control (2015).
