Biography
Stephen J. Anderson is an empirical researcher focused on the intersection of entrepreneurship and technology-driven growth in developing economies. His work examines how marketing-based interventions, such as analytics technology and AI tools, impact the behaviors and performance of small firms and their customers. Using multi-year field experiments and lab-in-the-field studies, Steve aims to promote equitable advancement for these firms. He has secured over $30 million in funding for his research, which includes two main programs: one on building marketing capabilities and product development for small firms, and another on leveraging technology and innovation for sustainable growth through Ed-Fintech solutions and Green Entrepreneurship projects. Before joining Mays Business School, Anderson was with the World Bank and Stanford GSB. He also has experience in the tech start-up space, which now informs his research and accelerator programs for entrepreneurs in developing economies. At Mays, he is the founding director of the Creative Destruction Lab – Texas, an accelerator for seed-stage science-based companies.
